Prep-Grade 6 Classroom Teachers

Several positions will be available from mid January 2013 for classroom teachers. The duties are similar to those in primary schools in developed countries. Teachers should have a minimum of three years successful teaching experience.

Successful applicants will be able to:

  • Utilise effective teaching practices across the curriculum
  • Develop a positive learning environment that meets the diverse needs of the learners
  • Display a commitment to ongoing professional development and participation in a culture of learning
  • Plan and implement teaching programs that engage students and support their learning
  • Use a variety of assessment strategies to enhance future teaching and learning
  • Work cooperatively in a variety of settings
  • Display a professional attitude to their duties
  • Understand and effectively use positive behaviour management strategies
  • Contribute to whole school goals and activities
  • Develop positive relationships with staff, students and parents

Experience in using the following teaching methods is desirable:

  • An Inquiry Approach for the teaching of investigative curriculum areas
  • A Balanced Literacy approach that incorporates components of modelled, shared, guided and independent practice
  • A hands-on approach to the teaching of Mathematics that teaches for understanding.

Specialist teachers are employed to teach the following subjects which are not normally part of the classroom teachers responsibility:

  • Physical education
  • Music
  • French
  • Art and drama (rotational basis)
